Forestlands in Hood River County became a certified Tree Farm with the American Tree Farm System in 2002. This certification recognizes the practice of sustainable and exemplary forestry on private forestlands. Acceptance into this program requires development of a management plan based on strict environmental standards, as well as inspections every 5 years. In addition to meeting the guidelines and standards set by the American Forest Foundation, forest management activities are performed in compliance with the Oregon Forest Practices Act. This act ensures protection of threatened and endangered species, preserving stream habitat, and successful reforestation.
